August 2021
Decentralized Cities and the Future of Collaboration
September 2021
- Why We Want What We Want – SuperSalon with Luke Burgis, Feat. Alaka Halder, Bronwyn Williams
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KGCl0gnznE&t=1s
- Recap: We began with Luke's motivations for writing Wanting (2021), which explores how mimetic desire shapes society, before diving into implications for criminal justice, culture, the economy, wage transparency, and more. While discussing mimetic theory's limitations, we wondered if any theories or models offer exits from mimetic traps. We examined envy vs. jealousy and how they might be harnessed for self-discovery. Finally, we explored positive mimesis (e.g. Montessori education), the importance of values and transcendent leadership, and hopes for interdisciplinary and empirical understandings of mimesis in the future.
